NOTED EXPLORER DEAD
MR. JACK HIDES’S WORK IN PAPUA (Recd This Day, 10.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Jack Hides, explorer and author, died after several weeks in hospital, suffering from pneumonia, at the age of 31. He achieved an international reputation, before he was 30, for his exploratory work in Papua. Hardships endured in a vain attempt to save his friend Lyally’s life, in an extremely perilous and toilsome journey from the interior to the coast, had lowered his resistance.
