CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. In the presence of nearly 4000 people the English touring women’s hockey team soundly defeated Canterbury by 6 goals to 1 on a ground made heavy by several frosts following rain in the early part of the week. In nearly every part of the game the home side was hopelessly out-classed and on the display today it is very doubtful if the English team will be beaten in New Zealand. INDIAN VISITORS WIN AGAINST WANGANUI By Telegraph—Press Association. WANGANUI, June 18. The Prince of Manavadar’s Indian hockey team defeated a Wanganui representative team at Spriggens Park this afternoon by 4 goals to 0. The game was fast and exciting and showed the visitors to be superior in all departments of the game. Play for the most part was in Wanganui territory, although on numerous occasions the local team penetrated the Indian defence and provided some quite spectacular. play. The standard of hockey in Wanganui has improved considerably since the previous Indian team visited the province and the opposition to the visitors this afternoon fully demonstrated this. In the second half Wanganui put up a fine resistance and made their opponents fully extended themselves to hold the home team in check.
