MANAWATU SHOW
A SUCCESSFUL CONCLUSION INCREASE IN GATE TAKINGS By Telegraph—Press Association. PALMERSTON NORTH, June 18. The Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s thirty-sixth annual winter and national dairy show reached a successful conclusion today with dog trials and woodchopping competitions in the morning and the Te Aute-Palmerston North Boys’ High School Rugby match in the afternoon. Though rain fell in the early hours this morning the weather cleared later, the remainder of the day being fine and sunny with a few passing clouds and a light breeze from the south. In contrast to the substantial increases in gate takings during the first three days of the show, the fourth day, yesterday,-saw a decrease of about £lO in the amount taken in comparison with the sum for the corresponding day last year. There is, however, still a substantial advance on the gate takings for the whole of the same show period last year. Yesterday £374 11s 9d was taken, as against £385 15s last year. Today gate receipts amounted to £484 * 12s, also a decrease on last year of £l6 14s 6d. The totals are 1938, £1834 6s 3d; 1937, £l5OO 10s 6d. Increase this year: £333 15s 9d.
