MARTINBOROUGH

BURGLARS AT WORK. (“Times-Age” Special.) Martinborough, in common with other towns in the Wairarapa, received the attention of burglars last night, when the premises of Messrs Boyd and Son, L. A. Campbell, and the County Council offices were entered. Entry was made in two cases by forcing open windows. From Boyd and Son’s office about £9 was stolen. In the other places no cash was obtained, but papers and documents were strewn all round the floor. From appearances, the burglars made attempts on other business places in the town, but without gaining entry. MINIATURE RIFLES. The scores registered in last night’s miniature rifle shooting competition are as follows: —

DEATH OF MR C. R. FENWICK. The friends of Mr Charles Robert Fenwick will regret to hear of his death which took place at the Greytown Hospital on Thursday, after some weeks’ illness. Deceased was wellknown in this district as he has lived here all his life. He followed the occupation of a drover. He is survived by a widow, three daughters and two sons. The funeral took place this afternoon. PtJBLIC LIBRARY. The annual meeting of subscribers of the Public Library was held In the Borough Council Office. There was a 'small attendance. Mr T. A. 'Hamilton presided. The librarian’s report was read, a regrettable feature being the decrease in membership. The following officials were elected: Subscribers’ representatives, Mesdames W. J. Martin, F. P. Ward and D. Matheson; Borough Council representatives, Crs. W. F. Gundrie and T. A. Hamilton; secretary, Mr G. C. Willis. Mr S. Boyd paid a compliment to the efficient manner in which the librarian had carried out her duties. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to her. At a subsequent meeting of the newly elected committee Mr W. F. Gundrie was elected chairman. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr and Mrs Walter Tilson, of Moiki, have returned from a holiday spent in Auckland. A wedding of local interest took place in Sydney early in June when Mrs Phoebe Bidwill (formerly Miss Martin, of Otaraia) was married to Mr Theo. Thompson.
