OBITUARY
LADY MURIEL PAGET LONDON, June 16. The death has occurred of Lady Muriel Paget. The name of Lady Muriel Paget was mentioned in the Russian treason trials last March. Rakovsky, once Ambassador in London, gave evidence of having aided the British Intelligence Service, and said that in 1934 he renewed his connection with Britain at the request of Lady Muriel Paget. Lady Muriel Paget, who was 61 years of age and noted for her work for the relief of British subjects in Russia, denied indignantly that she had ever worked for the Intelligence Service. “There would be grave dangers to many of my associates in relief work in Russia if I were tb speak too freely,” she said. “I met Rakovsky first when he was Ambassador in London and again in 1934 at an International Red Cross conference in Japan. But I never discus-
sed politics with him; the suggestion is fantastic.”
Lady Muriel Paget was the wife of Sir Richard Arthur Surtees Paget and a cousin of the Earl of Winchilsea. She held decorations from many foreign Governments, including Russia, for her work with relief missions. Mr Neville Chamberlain issued a denial that she had ever been in the British Intelligence Service.
