WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

KAHUTARA MEETING. At the June meeting of the Kahutara Womens Institute there was a good attendance of members, considering that a southerly gale made the day rather unpleasant. The president. Mrs L. McKenna, gave a most descriptive talk of the Hawke's Bay flood disaster, urging members to help in whatever way they could those who have been left homeless, or have suffered under the unusual circumstances. Mrs Welch submitted a most interesting report on the Federation meeting held at Carterton last month and to which she was a delegate. She was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The competition, an eggless fruit cake, was won by Mrs Graham, with Mrs Rogers second' and Mrs Rendle third. The best flower competition was won by Mrs Welch with a rose, Mrs Russell being second with an anemone. For the best programme for the coming year, Mrs Duffy and Miss Rendle tied with equal votes. Miss L. Hood won the junior competition for both programme and embroidered handkerchief. Miss J. Hood, the Institute Secretary, arranged a competition to entertain members after afternoon tea, which, was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Playle, Corlet, Bentley and Miss Warrington.
