INCREASE IN TAKINGS. COMPETITION RESULTS. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) PALMERSTON N.. June 17. Now in its fourth day, the National Dairy Show at Palmerston North continues to draw large crowds, and the increase in gate takings for the first two days was maintained yesterday, the amount being £424 7s .fid compared with £412 12s 6d on the same day last year. So far the aggregate receipts are £362 7s 6d in advance of the previous show. Today’s events reached a high entertainment peak, hunting events in the oval holding the interest of ' a large crowd throughout the afternoon, and the steer-riding competition providing many thrills. The jumping was of a high standard but was marred by an accident to Radiant, ridden by Miss Anthea Carey, Wanganui, in the maiden jumpers’ competition. The’ horse overreached the triple bar and received a cut neck. New but successful riders at the show this year were Miss Boyd (Pahiatua) and Miss Joan Trotter (Dannevirke). The steer-riding was one of the finest exhibitions yet seen at Palmerston North. There was a large field of 36 entries but no accidents.

The following were the results of the competitions:— Maiden jumpers who have not won a competition at any agricultural show: Miss N. Cameron’s (Turakina) Waiforte, 1; G. H. Wilson’s (Bulls) Tally Ho, 2; E. Olsen’s (Pahiatua) Waitangi, 3. Jumping competition: R. Hartley’s (Hunterville) Snowstorm, 1; Miss Ruth Perry’s (Feilding) Handyman, 2; J. J. Waller’s (Turakina) Ramona, 3. Pony leaping competition, 13.2 hands to 14.2 hands: W. Beatson’s (Feilding) Peter Pan, 1; Billy Olsen’s (Pahiatua) Chum, 2; Miss Boyd’s (Pahiatua) Peter Pan, 3. Open hunters’ competition: R. Hartley’s (Hunterville) Snowstorm, 1; Miss Ruth Perry’s (Feilding) Handyman, 2; J. J. Waller’s (Turakina) Ramona, 3. The steer riding resulted: L. Sinclair (Marton), 1; L. K. McLean (Marton), 2; A. Hammond (Otari station, Hunterville), 3.
