On Wednesday evening St. Mary’s Church, New Plymouth, was decorated with hydrangeas in pastel and bronze shades and autumn foliage for the wedding of Margaret Joyce (“Jo”), youngest daughter of Mrs M. A. Swan, Fitzroy, New Plymouth, and William Trevor, eldest son of the late Mr W. T. Hume and Mrs Hume, “Raho Ruru,” Pirinoa. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. G. W. G. Griffin, and Mrs W. Laing played the Wedding March. The bride who was escorted by her brother, Mr G. H. Swan, Wellington, wore a model gown of ivory lacquered embossed taffeta, cut on early Victorian lines. The tightly fitting bodice, with its leg-of-mutton sleeves, was finished in the V-shaped neckline at the front with a spray of orange blossom. Small velvet bows trimmed the back of the bodice from neck to waistline. The full skirt was gathered into the waistline, and widened to fall to the ground in folds. The bridal veil was of tulle, the head-dress being formed by three circular layers of tulle and held in the head by two roses on top. The bride wore white gloves and carried a sheaf of. St. Joseph lilies and roses. Miss Lorna Thomson, Wellington (chief bridesmaid) and Misses Beverley Beard, Wanganui, and Rae Macdonald, New Plymouth, wore frocks of ivory poulte taffeta, designed on exactly the same lines as the bride’s gown. Their head dresses were bandeaux of red roses. Miss Thomson carried a bouquet of sweet peas, African ■daisies, and scarlet foliage and the flower girls carried posies of red roses. Mr Gordon Sutherland, Te Pare, Featherston, attended the bridegroom as best man. A reception was held at the Criterion Hotel, where the tables were decorated with red sweet peas and carnations. Mrs M. A. Swan, the bride’s mother, wore a French model frock of walnut brown ring velvet and a toque to tone. Her bouquet was of flowers in autumn tints. The bridegroom’s mother is at present on a tour abroad. For travelling the bride wore a tailored suit of maize English suiting. With it she wore a blouse and hat of petrel blue and a mole fur coat. The honeymoon is being spent in the Auckland and Rotorua districts. Mr and Mrs Hume will live at Pirinoa, Wairarapa.
