GREYTOWN

WOMEN’S DIVISION BIRTHDAY PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The birthday party of the Greytown branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs R. Beu (president) and Mrs W. G. K. Wiggins (secretary) received visitors from the Masterton, Carterton, Featherston and Martinborough branches, and representatives from the Mothers’ League and Plunket Society. The hall was filled tp capacity," about 200 being present. The programme for the afternoon was supplied by Miss Josie Dennes (pianoforte solo), Mrs W. J. Knell (recitation), Miss Isobel Wiggins (musical monologue), Mrs T. Gold (song); Miss Josie Dennes (recitation); Mrs H. E. Webster (song). The birthday cake, which was made and presented by Mrs Beu, was distributed to those present. Mrs John Hodge, the oldest member, cut the cake. Mrs Groves, of the Masterton branch, lit the candles, and Mrs Wakely, of the Featherston branch, blew them out. A competition, arranged by Mrs H. E. Webster, was won by Mrs A. H. York. Mrs Barnard won the top tier of the birthday cake which realised £2. The gatherin g was brought to a close with the singing of .“Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem.
