FLYING ACTIVITIES
WAIRARAPA AND RUAHINE CLUB. PROPOSALS TO ENCOURAGE AVIATION. T'he monthly meeting of the committee of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club was held at the club house, the president, Mr A. McDonald being in the chair. Mr McDonald extended a welcome to Messrs N. G. Whiteman, H. J. W. Lord and A. C. Tatton, who were elected to the committee at the annual meeting. Messrs A. R. Peterson and A. El Hare were elected new members of the club. The following committees were appointed:— Finance: Messrs N. G. Whiteman, H. W. Robinson, H. J. W. Lord, A. C. Tatton. Flying: Messrs A. W. Buchanan, W. R. Paku, H. T. Parsons, C. G. Cunningham. Ground: Messrs E. F. Barton, H. J. W. Lord, C. G. Cunningham, W. A. Wardell, H. W. Robinson, W. R. Paku and H. T. Parsons. Mr Cunningham was elected as the club’s representative at Dannevirke. It was decided that a letter of thanks be sent to Mr Ken Smith, of Wellington, who had acted as pilot-instructor at Dannevirke for two days recently. Mr E. A. Heyder outlined proposals to encourage aviation in the Wairarapa and to stimulate interest, particularly among the pupils of the secondary schools. Suggestions were made regarding club and inter-club competitions and also the social entertainment of members at the club house. The matter was referred to the flying committee, which will hold a special meeting to consider the proposals and bring down a scheme for the development of the activities of the club. Messrs P. F. Fagan (vice-president) and L. F. Gray (secretary) attended the annual general meeting of the Royal New Zealand Aero Club, held at Wellington yesterday.
