GOLF COMPETITIONS. I (“Times-Age” Special.) The fourth round for the Campbell Cup was played on Saturday by the members, of the local golf club. M. Herangi handed in the best net score of 69. One. more rounds is to be played and three players are well in the running. Mrs Carter’s card was the best for the fourth round of Mrs Busch’s trophy. Playing in the Sinclair Thomson Cup last Monday J. Carter holed his tee shot in one at the fourth hole. Needless to say he had to do the honours. This is the second occasion this feat has been accomplished on this course. Miss M. Carter was the other player. It is probable that a match against Hinakura will be played here at the weekend. A SOUTHERLY GALE. The beautiful weather which has been experienced in this district during the past fortnight changed on Mon? day 1 to a raging southerly gale accompanied by rain and sleet. The high levels are coated with snow. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. At a committee meeting of the Women's Institute accounts in connection with the recent ball were dealt with. The financial statement showed a creditable balance. It was decided to donate £5 towards the Hawke’s Bay Flood Fund. PERSONAL ITEMS. Mr and Mrs Fred Brough, Lake Ferry, who have been spending a holiday in Hawke’s Bay, have returned home. Mrs Monck and her two sons, who were staying with Mi’ and Mrs R. J. McCelland, Tauanui, have returned to Gisborne. COMING OF AGE PARTY. A social evening was held at the residence of Mrs G. Busch on Tuesday evening the occasion being the coming of age of Mr Frank Busch. Songs and z dances helped to pass away what proved to be a most enjoyable evening. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the local school committee there were present Messrs S. Mclntosh (chairman), J. Duggan, J. Rewai, J. Carter and S. Sutton (sec.) Several urgent matters were attended to. The chairman was deputed to ascertain the cost of re-coating the basketball courts. A POPULAR BALL. Special preparations are being made for the Bachelors’ and Spinsters’ Ball which is to be held in the Memorial Hall on Wednesday, July 6. Avery’s dance band has been engaged for the occasion and patrons are assured of first-class music. The supper arrangements are in charge of a special committee. Particulars are advertised.
