DRUNKEN DRIVERS. At the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Automobile Association a letter was received from the secretary of the North Island Motor Union in reference to traffic inspectors being given power to arrest drunken drivers, and asking for comment on the proposal. The opinion was expressed that it was the Association’s duty to protect motorists and not to prosecute them. Mr G. Hughan (Carterton) supported the proposal and moved a motion in that direction, with the addition that qualified and well-trained officers alone be appointed. Mr H. Jackson seconded the motion. '• Mr H. J. Jones (Masterton) said that he considered the Association should keep out of it. Mr H. Lawson (Featherston) considered it wrong to treble the inspectors; they might become a menace to motorists. The inspector, he said, according to regulations, had power to forbid any person to drive and even to take charge of a car. Mr Jackson said he would withdraw from seconding the motion. It was eventually decided, on the motion of Mr R. W. Roydhouse (Carterton), seconded by Mr Jones, to advise that . the Association considered the inspectors were already vested with sufficient powers.. NEW AUTOMOBILE MEMBERS. Ninety new members were elected at the monthly meeting of the Waitarapa Automobile Association. TREES FOR MT. HOLDSWORTH. Messrs A.
