BUSINESS AT FORTNIGHTLY SITTING
MOTORING AND OTHER OFFENCES
A sitting of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court, was held this morning, Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., being on the Bench.
Michael Robert Leslie Mahoney, on a charge of driving a motor car in Queen Street on May 14 without due care and attention was fined £1 10s and costs 10s and on a charge of having no warrant of fitness was fined 10s and costs 10s. Roland Henry Davis on a charge of driving a motor car on May 14, without having a motor driver’s licence was fined 10s and costs 10s. It was stated by’ the police that defendant held a licence for driving a motor cycle, but not one for a car.
Ronald William Burling was fined 10s without costs for driving a motor vehicle on the Kahautara Road without a warrant for fitness.
Arthur Cretney, for having no current driver's licence for his motor cycle was fined 10s and costs 10s. The information was laid by the Transport Department Traffic Inspector, Mr Milne, who stated that in response to complaints received he visited a motorcycle rally at Wardell’s Bridge on May 22.
A fine of 10s and costs 10s was imposed on Alan Wilfred Rigg for riding a motor-cycle on May 22 with a silencer that was not in good working order. This case was also the result of the visit of Inspector Milne to the rally.
Thomas Patrick O’Neill was fined 10s with costs 10s, and solicitor’s fee 10s 6d for allowing a horse to stray in Queen Street.
James Shannon, for using a motor vehicle on May 22 for which a licence had not been issued was fined £2 and costs 10s, and for having no warrant of fitness, defendant was fined 10s and costs 10s. Mr J. McGregor, Borough Traffic Inspector, stated that the car had 1936-37 plates attached. Defendant said he had just purchased the car. and was taking it out to the farm. For operating a motor-cycle without an effective silencer, James Allen was fined 30s and costs 11s. Inspector McGregor said the service at Knox Church was disturbed by the noise of a motor-cycle, and he was compelled to leave the church and investigate. On the information of Inspector McGregor. Frederick John McDonald was fined £l, and costs, for not being the holder of a hawker's licence.
