BRITAIN’S DEFENCES
MEASURES TO REPEL ATTACK BY AIR
SIR EDWARD ELLINGTON'S SURVEY. INTERVIEW IN AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph.—Press Association, Copyright. FREMANTLE, June 14. Among the passengers aboard the Strathnaver, which arrived from London to-day. is Sir Edward Ellington, Inspector-General of the Royal Air Force, who is on loan to Australia to report on the Australian Air Force. In an interview, Sir Edward said that no navy could challenge the British Navy in European waters and no land force could invade Britain. Thus the most dangerous form of attack might be expected from the air. He pointed out that there had been a great advance in anti-aircraft guns since the war and Britain was well equipped in this respect. He had no. doubt that the balloon barrage at present being tried out in England would serve its purpose and have a great moral effect on enemy pilots. Sir Edward is accompanied by two members of his personal staff, Wing Commanders A. Davidson and H. Lydford.
