“THE RIGHT MAN”
HOSPITAL BOARD CHAIRMAN. MR H. H. MAWLEY RE-ELECTED. “He is the right man in the right place,” observed Mr Trevor Beetham when moving at today’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board that Mr H. H. Mawley be re-elected chairman for the ensuing two years. The motion was carried unanimously. In thanking members for his re-elec-tion, Mr Mawley said that since he had been in office the work had perhaps been a little more strenuous than before, due principally to the building programme. “I have tried to do the job to the best of my ability,” he added, “and if you are not satisfied you have the remedy in your hands. The work certainly takes up a lot of one’s time.”
After referring to the co-operation he had at all times received from members, Mr Mawley said it was a good thing that they did not always see eye to eye. Differences of opinion enabled them to thrash problems out from every angle. There still remained quite a big programme ahead, Mr Mawley continued, including the erection of a three-storey block. Those things had to be carefully considered so that a proper balance could be struck as to what was fair to the ratepayers and necessary for the patients.
Mr Mawley said he did not like to see members drifting away from meetings. After all they were paid by the ratepayers to attend the meetings and if possible they should endeavour to see them out.
