CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
SIXTY-SECOND ANNUAL REPORT PAST YEAR’S ACTIVITIES The sixty-second annual report of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society states: “It is exceedingly gratifying to note that during the season which has just closed the society has continued to receive the hearty support of its members and the public in general in its annual entertainments. As you will see by the balance sheet, finances have been maintained about the usual level. Unfortunately, the society was again compelled to abandon the holding of what promised to be a most successful annual sports gathering on New Year’s day, and the continued efforts of all council members were therefore annulled. Timely notice of the postponement was, however, broadcast, per means of radio and communicated per telephone to the various places from which competitors and supporters were expected, thus enabling a choice of alternate entertainment.”
“During the year eight meetings of directors were held. No nominations have been received for new director? on your board, the retiring directors, therefore, are eligible for re-election. “Social entertainents. —During the year, one Ingleside open to the public was held in the Municipal Hall, and two social gatherings for members only were held. These gatherings were most favourably commented upon and proved a real social success.
“Ladies’ Committee. —It is with the utmost pleasure that I take this opportunity to pay tribute to the admirable service rendered by the ladies' committee. Their loyalty, enthusiasm and quiet co-operation in arranging and conducting our social entertain ments have elicited unstinted praise from members and guests alike, and I desire, on behalf of the executive council, to express the grateful thanks and appreciation their highly successful efforts so richly deserve. “In conclusion, I wish to sincerely thank my directors who have so willingly assisted me during the past year thus considerably lightening my duties. I earnestly hope that the society will be encouraged in the year on which it has now entered.
