ALLEGED BURGLARS

TWO MEN BEFORE COURT AT ROTORUA FURTHER CHARGES PENDING (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ROTORUA. June 13. Charged with being found in possession of housebreaking implements by night and with breaking and entering the counting house of the New Zealand Government Tourist Department at Rotorua and attempting to steal a sum of £4B, Edward Donovan, aged 42, and Kenneth William Edward Bates, aged 26, appeared in the Magistrates’ Court this afternoon and, on the application of the police, who stated that other charged were pending, were remanded until June 22.

Detective-Sergeant Thompson stated that a charge of escaping from lawful custody would be preferred against Bates, who had broken out of the Rotorua lock-up the previous night, but after a brief spell of liberty had been recaptured.
