GRIEBL’S ESCAPE
WIFE SENT TO PRISON IN U.S.A. JUDGE SUGGESTS HUSBAND’S RETURN. NEW YORK, June 9. Mrs Griebl, wife of the United States Nazi chief, Ignatz Griebl, has been arrested and sent to prison following her failure to provide 5000 dollars bail, when it was discovered that she had sold her husband’s medical equipment and shipped his personal effects to Germany. She had also planned to sail for Germany herself. The judge suggested that Mrs Griebl should communicate with her husband and ask him to return to the United States. She replied, weeping: “Maybe he will not be allowed to return.”
Dr Igratz Griebl escaped to Germany a few days before the opening of the grand jury hearing of the . greatest United States peace-time spy case. He landed at Bremerhaven and has been permitted to stay in Germany. Several other important Government witnesses also eluded the police.
