SHOPLIFTING CHARGES
TWO WOMEN SENT TO GAOL (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Described by the prosecution as no different from professional shop-lifters two married women were convicted and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour by Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday. Constance Augustine, aged 49, pleaded guilty to four charges of theft from city stores and to a joint charge of a similar nature with her daughter, Edna May Mitchell. Her daughter, aged 28, pleaded guilty to four similar charges and to a joint charge with her mother. The theft, which included rings, clothing and books, were of a total value of £66 Bs.
