COMMITTEES IGNORED?
ALLEGATIONS BY FEATHERSTON COUNCILLORS. MEMBERS NOT CONSULTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) “When committees are set up it is not right for them to be ignored,” observed Councillor C. C. Kenward at last night’s meeting of the Featherston Borough Council. He alleged that as a member of the Building Committee he had not been consulted before certain works were carried 1 out. “These are only trivial matters,” he added, “but during the last term considerable work was put in hand and the committee was not consulted. We regard that as a slight.” The Mayor, Mr J. W. Card, said no slight was intended to the Building Committee. The matters referred to had been discussed at a council meeting which Councillor Kenward had not attended.
Councillor C. R. Skippage said he was chairman of the Building Committee last term and he was not consulted in a number of matters. A lot of things were taken out of the committee’s hands.
The Mayor: “That was last term. We have finished with that now.”
Councillor Skippage: “I hope that in future the committee will be consulted. It is not fair to ignore us.” The Mayor: “The Building Committee is subservient to the council. This discussion is not in order.”
