Orr v Miss V. Corlett. The tea hostesses will be Miss M. Campbell and Mrs Riggs. SCHOOL HOUR LUNCH. . The result of the plebiscite of parents as to whether the school lunch time should be shortened, has resulted in an overwhelming majority in favour of the one hour interval. The figures were: For 132, against 60. The change will take effect from Monday next. At present the lunch interval is one hour and a quarter, and the children will now leave for home a quarter of an hour earlier. FLOOD LIGHTING CEREMONY. The official ceremony of flood-light-ing the Carterton Memorial Square will take place at 7.30 o’clock tonight. The Mayoress (Mrs D. L. Taverner) has consented to switch on the lighting system. INSTITUTE BIRTHDAY PARTY. The Carterton branch of the Women’s Institute successfully celebrated its fourth at the Masonic Hall last evening in conjunction with the annual “Husbands’ Night” social. Miss O. Wolters (president) cordially welcomed the members and their husbands, after which the “Ode to Friendship” was sung. A musical programme was submitted, Misses V. Irwin (pianoforte solo), Dawn Sorensen (musical monologue), Norma Tinsley (recitation) contributing to it. All the performers were encored. The Drama Circle of the Institute staged a play entitled “0.H.M.5.,” and the performers were warmly applauded for their efforts. A cake competition was held for a cake made by Mrs Les. Sorensen, and was won by Mrs W. Compton. The Institute birthday cake was made by Mrs L. Sorensen, a member of the committee, and four candles were lit by Mrs W. Pinfold (the tea hostess) and were blown out by Mrs A. C. Knutson. Dancing was afterwards indulged in to music played by Mrs V. Ashton and Mr Gordon Udy. The statue waltz was won by Mrs Mellish and partner, and a lucky spot waltz was won by Mrs Mellish and Mrs Steffert, Senr. Mr Les. Sorensen was a capable M.C.
