QUEST FOR OIL
ARRIVAL OF AMERICAN EXPERTS WITH UP-TO-DATE BORING EQUIPMENT. ADVANCE IN PROSPECTING METHODS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. This Day. To join in the search for oil: in New Zealand, two petroleum geologists from California, Messrs H. W. Thoms and A. A. Weymouth, arrived by the Mariposa, accompanied by. Mr W. S. Simpson, accountant-manager, who has been associated with the development of the Vacuum Oil Company’s business in Mexico. “There has been great development 1 in the methods for discovering oil.” said Mr Thoms, “and it is now as easy to bore to a depth of 10,000 feet as it was to reach 3.000 feet when I started geological work. A well today is only beginning to get deep at 10,000 feet.” The visitors were met on board by Mr W. H. Gallaher, chief geologist to the Standard Oil Co., New York, who has been in New Zealand for some time, also by Mr J. H. -Lindon. General Manager of the Vacuum Oil Company in the Dominion and local representatives. Boring equipment weighing 1500 tons is on the Mariposa.
