CARTERTON
LABOUR PARTY DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The weekly dance, under the auspices of the Carterton Labour Party social committee, and held in the Band Hall on Saturday night, was well attended. The music was supplied by Mr D. Te Tau and Mr H. Hewison. The Monte Carlo dances were won by Mr S. Green, Jnr., and Miss T. Green, and Mr J. Steffert and Miss B. Challis. Mr Uprichard capably carried out the duties of M.C. Supper was provided. MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT. A sedan motor-car owned and driven by Mr C. Cook, of Carterton, was badly damaged on Tuesday in rather unusual circumstances. When Mr Cook was approaching the Black Bridge on the Main Highway south of Carterton a horse swerved suddenly across the road as another car was about to pass it from the north. In its fright, the horse collided with Mr Cook’s car and damaged it considerably before being knocked over by the force of the impact. The car was later towed to Carterton, and as the injuries received by the horse were severe the animal had to be shot. LODGE OFFICERS INSTALLED. In the presence of a' large gathering of members, including -visitors from Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton, the newly-elected officers of Totara Lodge were installed into office by District President, Bro. Hector J. Bassett, on Tuesday night. Complimentary reference was made to the efficient manner the retiring Past Arch Druid, Bro. A. Stretton, had carried out his duties, after which the District President, on behalf of the Lodge, presented Bro. Stretton with a Past Arch Collar and Diploma. Four members were declared off the sick funds of the Lodge, after which the sick visitors' reports were received, and it- was resolved that weekly medical reports from members on the sick funds be insisted on. One new benefit member was initiated into the Order, and a further proposal for membership received. During the quarter ended May, six benefit members were admitted to the Order, and judging by reports the prospects of a steady increase in membership are bright. Next Monday the members of the Totara Lodge will visit Stonehenge Lodge, Masterton. With a view to organising entertainment by way of indoor games, it was resolved to approach other lodges with a view to arranging indoor bowls, ping pong, and other games among the United Friendly Societies. The secretary reported that a few members had not cleared on the books for May quarter, and they are reminded that the new hospital and medical lists will be made up at* once, and those not clear will be deleted. ' Accounts and sick pay-amounting to £4l 17s Id were passed! or payment, after which the Lodge adjourned for harmony, the visitors being entertained at supper prior to departure for home.
