ROTARY CLUB
ADDRESS BY MR CODDINGTON. HISTORY OF CHINA TRACED. The speaker at today’s luncheon of the Masterton Rotary Club was Rotarian E. G. Coddington, who gave a most interesting and instructive address on China. The president, Rotarian C. R. Mabson, presided. — Mr Coddington interestingly reviewed China’s history, particularly from a political point of view, over the past twenty-five years and said that about 1911, during the first years of the Republic, there was no national spirit among the Chinese. That was principally because they had been under a rule that allowed them no say in the government of their country. By 1925, however, there was a tremendous growth of patriotism and consciousness. Right through China’s history Japan had seemed to foster everything that would prevent the Chinese from becoming a united people. On the motion of Rotarian W. Snowsill, the speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
