DELIQUENT MOTORISTS
NO WARRANTS OF FITNESS. RAID BY INSPECTORS. The Masterton traffic inspectors raided motorists yesterday in search of warrants of fitness and the number of drivers who could not produce warrants or whose certificates had expired was considerable. A number of motorists did not seem aware of the fact that the warrants of fitness hold good for only six months and that they have to be renewed immediately on expiry. The inspectors also point out that the onus is on the driver to produce his warrant of fitness, irrespective of who is the owner of the car.
It is not generally known that motorists from outside districts may have their drivers’ licences renewed by producing their old licence at the office of the local authority in the town in which they happen to be at the end of the licensing year.
