DRAMA LEAGUE

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA EXECUTIVE. FORTHCOMING FESTIVALS. An executive meeting of the Wairarapa Drama League was held at St Matthew’s Collegiate School last evening, Mr T. Jordan being in the chair. An apology for absence was received from Mr C. C. Marsack. The treasurer, Mr V. Joseph, presented the balance-sheet of the recent three-act play, “The Two Mrs Carrolls.” This showed a very satisfactory credit balance of £9 4s 6d. On the motion of Mr Jordan, hearty congratulations were tendered to the producer, Mrs E. J. Rich, and to the players on the success of the production. Great regret was expressed at the departure from Masterton of Mr Peter Colvin and a resolution was passed thanking him for his great assistance to the Wairarapa Drama League during the past year. It was arranged that the local drama library be transferred to Mrs E. J. Rich’s residence. Miss O. R. Sutherland was appointed to purchase books for the library and an account was passed for three new books of one-act plays recently placed in the library. There was considerable discussion on the subject of royalties and it was agreed to obtain further information before the Drama Festival as to who holds the various agencies. The various clubs belonging to the Wairarapa Area. are asked to pay 5s as soon as possible to a fighting fund for the reduction of royalties. Headquarters announced that in future all players in Drama Festivals will pay a toll of 3d instead of Id per player. The original dates for the festival were July 20 and 21 but owing to the projected visit of a team of Negro graduates to Masterton on July 21 it was decided to ask the judge, Miss Elizabeth Loe, if she has free any time in the following week. Saturday, June 25, is the closing date for the festival and teams are asked to send in entries to the secretary as soon as possible. The North Island elimination festival will be held in Masterton in the first week in October.
