TENSION IN SYRIA
FRENCH TROOPS OCCUPY ANTIOCH TURKISH ARMY CORPS ON FRONTIER SEQUEL TO THE RECENT “ULTIMATUM” By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. LONDON, June 2. The “Daily Telegraph’s” correspondent at Antioch says that, after what was described as Turkey's virtual ultimatum to France, a Turkish army corps, 30,000 strong, assembled on the Franco-Syrian frontier. French troops with armoured cars have occupied Antioch. . It was reported yesterday that there had been serious rioting in Antioch, as a result of which three persons were killed. Turkey is understood to have sent what virtually amounted to an ultimatum to France stating that Turkish troops would march into the Sanjak of Alexandretta (which includes the city of Antioch) unless France conceded control of the territory. The region is now practically under martial law and registrations for the forthcoming elections have been suspended.
