GAS RATE

AN INCREASE PROPOSED. A proposal was placed before the Masterton Borough Council last night by the Gas Committee that for the ensuing year the council should collect a gas rate of Jd in the £ based on the unimproved value of all rateable property within the boundary. Referring to the proposal, the chairman of the committee, Councillor A. D. Low, said he did not know whether the council wanted him to deal with it that night but he thought it was a matter for consideration when the estimates were drawn up. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan: “That’s just a warning.” Councillor Low: “We think that it will be necessary to ask for that rate on this occasion.” The matter was left over for the es« timates meeting. Last year a rate of id in the £ was collected for the first time.
