THIRTEENTH CHILD

GIVEN BIRTH TO BY MRS DIONNE. Mrs Oliva Elzire Dionee is in the news again, says the “Montreal Daily Mail” correspondent. And the famous Quins have a new baby brother. For Mrs Dionne has given birth to her thirteenth child and twelfth living. He arrived at the Dionne homestead—the same primitive farmhouse in which nearly four years ago the Quins were born —and took the entire neighbourhood by surprise. For while the advent of Oliva Junior on July 9, 1936, was predicted by the newspapers, no hint that another happy event was expected had been heard even locally.

Mrs Dionne, almost a recluse since tourists invaded her privacy, has seldom been seen outside her fiveroom home for the past few months. The new baby was assisted into the world by Dr Joyal, of North Bay, who officiated last time, assisted by Miss Clare Tremblay and Miss Jacqueline Noel, both former nurses of the quintuplets. “Both mother and child are doing nicely,” says the doctor. No name has yet been selected for, the new baby, who weighs 711 b. Mrs Dionne, who is 29 and married at 17, now has besides the Quins four boys and three girls living. They are Ernest (12), Rose (11). Therese (9), Pauline (7), Daniel (6), Oliva jr. (1J) and the baby. The Quins, who will be four next month, have a fortune of £150,000.
