Rain throughout the country seriously interfered with county cricket matches. In the match between Derby and Sussex there was no play and the game was abandoned. Glamorgan, first innings, 100 (Fames 4 for 28, Smith 5 for 34); Essex did not bat and the match was abandoned. Gloucester, first innings, 5 for 324, declared (Allen 50, Barnett 57, Hammond 57, Crapp not out 116); Warwick, first innings 1 for 148 (Santail 75). The match was abandoned. Lancashire, first innings 5 for 175 (Oldfield 74) v Leicester. The match was abandoned. Notts, first innings 4 for 290 (Harris 81) v Hampshire. The match was abandoned. Northants, first innings 166 (Nelson 76, Wellard 5 for 52, Buse 5 for 56); second innings 165 (Wellard 7 for 76). Somerset, first innings, 271 (Lyon not out 122); second innings, 7 for 65 (Buswell 5 for 32). Somerset won by three wickets.
