Bro. Baikie (a member of the District Management Committee) be invited to perform the installation ceremony. SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Carterton School Committee was held on Monday night. It was reported that the two district members of the Education Board, Messrs Donald and McDonald, had Visited the school in connection with the proposed new class rooms, and as the result of the visit it is probable that three new rooms will be erected. This has become necessary owing to the consolidation programme, the pupils from the small schools which have been closed having overtaxed the existing accommodation. A section has been purchased fronting Tyne Street, and it is likely that the additions will comprise a complete building on this section to accommodate the infants. .. . ‘At the animal meeting of householders the committee accepted a recommendation that the lunch hour should bp. reduced from one hour and a quarter to an hour to enable the country children to leave for home earlier. The recommendation was discussed at length and it was eventually decided that a referendum be taken of the parents, and the headmaster will ask them to state their ideas on the proposal. The headmaster reporte’d that the attendance had been somewhat affected by sickness, but was satisfactory in the circumstances. It was reported that Misses A. Nisbet and N. Flynn had been appointed to the staff. PERSONAL. Dr Tweed, of Heretaunga, and formerly of Carterton, will sail this mqnth for England, where he expects to spend some months before returning to the Dominion.
