LAD GOING ASTRAY
MAGISTRATE’S FRIENDLY COUNSEL.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day.
Convicting John Joseph Hodgens, a seaman aged 18, charged with being a rogue and a vagabond in that he was found without lawful excuse in possession of implements for housebreaking, a screwdriver, file and rubber gloves, and two minor charges of theft. Mr W. F. Stilwell. S.M., said: “You are only a lad and you have made a pretty bad start .in this country. I can’t help but feel you should be given a chance of pulling yourself together and settling down. The atmosphere seems to savour of the romantic result of reading trashy magazines. I hope so. If you want to carry on in the direction you indicate, you are in for a pretty sorry time.”
