OFFENCES IN HOTEL
BEER MUG THROWN AT LICENSEE.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.
The story of how George Edgar Pengelly threw an empty beer “handle” at the head of the licensee of the White Swan Hotel yesterday afternoon was related in the Magistrate’s Court today, when Pengelly appeared on five charges as a result of getting drunk. He was sentenced to thirty days* imprisonment on a charge of using obscene language in the public bar of the White Swan Hotel, and on four other charges he was convicted and discharged by Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M. Pengelly pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspec-tor Packer said Pengelly had gone into the hotel and bought a “handle” of beer. The licensee had refused accused a loan of 2s 6d, but had given him a handle of beer. The licensee had then turned away and Pengelly had thrown an empty handle at him. He missed, and a bottle of whisky and a measure were damaged by the flying mug. Pengelly had at the same time used bad language, concluded SubInspector Packer. He had been carrying on for years and had not improved.
