BIG ORDER FOR MASTERTON HATCHERIES.

2,250,000 THIS YEAR

Preparations are in train at the Masterton Fish Hatcheries for the handling of a record number of trout fry, 2,250,000. The Hatcheries will be taxed to capacity to accommodate this large number of fry, 2,000,000 of which will be brown and 250.000 rainbow. Last year 1,300,000 fry were reared at the Hatcheries. The liberation of 25,000 yearlings is expected to be completed this week. These fish are being turned out in various rivers of the Wellington district. About half the number is brown trout and the other half rainbow.
