TREATMENT FOR SQUASH PLAYER. “FELT UNUSUALLY LIVELY.” After gland treatment for footballers# comes drug treatment for squash--i. rackets players. A doctor at a wellknown English “squash” club has been conducting experiments with benzedrine, a new drug. One of his “patients,” Donald Butcher, a former professional and open champion, played in a match recently after being dosed with the drug. Although he has virtually retired' from competitive play he beat W. A. Aylott, an ex-junior champion, many years younger than himself, at the Hampstead Squash and Rugby Fives Club. “I saw the ball as big as a football,” Butcher told a reporter after the match. “I felt unusually lively, and quick thinking became second nature. “The effect of the drug was most successful as far as the game went, although I hope it will not be generally used.” Benzedrine, which is used medicinally to combbat colds and influenza, is a powerful mental stimulant. “It is a very dangerous drug,” a , 'doctor said, “and one which we are trying to have put on the list of dangerous drugs. “The reason is that its precise effects are not completely known. In certain cases its use has had most harmful results. “It should not be used except unifier medical supervision.”
