TRUST ELECTION

RESULT OF YESTERDAY’S POLL TWO NEW MEMBERS RETURNED MR L. J. TAYLOR DEFEATED The poll taken in Masterton yesterday for the election of three representatives on the Trust Lands Trust resulted in the re-election of the chairman, Mr J. McFarlane Laing and the return of two new members, Messrs J. H. Handyside and H. H. Daniell. The unsuccessful candidate was Mr L. J. Taylor, a retiring member. Only 1266 voters exercised their rights out of a total roll number of 5390. Last year, when there were six candidates in the field, 1544 voted and in the previous year, 1077. A feature of this year’s poll is that excluding declaration votes which have yet to be counted, not a single informal vote was cast. Details of yesterday’s poll are M, indicating Municipal Hall; K, Kuripuni; L, Lansdowne; R, Railway and F, Fernridge.

There are 64 declaration votes yet to be counted, but these cannot affect the result. The official recount is taking place today. Mr Taylor was elected to the Trust in 1932, and had been a nember continuously ever since. The result of the poll was announced by the Returning Officer, Mr W. B. Yates, at 6.30 p.m., half an hour after the closing of the booths.
