FLOOD RELIEF APPEAL

MEETING OF MASTERTON COMMITTEE £6OO CONTRIBUTION LIKELY There is every likelihood that about £6OO will be raised as the result of the Wairarapa appeal for the Hawke’s Bay Flood Relief Fund. At a meeting of the Masterton general committee last night it was stated that the gross receipts in hand totalled £560, with several small amounts still outstanding. A recommendation was made to the Mayor, Mr T Jordan, to make, in view of the urgency of the matter an immediate advance payment of £4OO.

Hearty appreciation was expressed by members of the committee of the splendid work all helpers had carried out to assist the appeal, and the committee congratulated the district on its excellent response. Special mention was made of the organising ability of the secretary, Mr D. Ward, in setting up committees in various Wairarapa towns, for which he was entirely responsible. Mr J. Bradbury, chairman of the committee, expressed his personal thanks to those who responded to his initial call for assistance and congratulated them on their efforts. A sub-committee was set up to make arrangements for the disposal of a handsome iced cake which had been donated to the committee. The cake was iced and decorated by Mrs J. Shaw. The subscription list will remain open until the end of next week. The response to the appeal in such a short period is remarkably good and considerable credit is due to Mr Bradbury for the untiring way in which he worked to ensure the success of the appeal. MAYOR’S FUND. ADDITIONAL DONATIONS. Additional donations to the Hawke’s Bay flood relief fund are acknowledged by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, as follow: —
