DEATH PENALTY

ALFRED SPICER EXECUTED SYDNEY, May 26. Alfred Spicer was hanged this morning. Alfred Spicer, aged 65 years, was found guilty of murdering a six-year-old girl, Marcia Hayes, in December last year. A police dog, Tess, was reported to have played a major part in solving the mystery of the child’s disappearance. A large party of searchers was unable to locate the child when Tess, after being allowed to sniff the child’s clothing at her home, set out on the trail across the paddocks and finally located the body in a bag in a creek near the Hawksbury River. The child had been outraged and strangled.
