FLOOD DAMAGE

OVER £22,000 IN WAIAPU COUNTY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, May 26. Damage exceeding £22,015 was done in the Waiapu County by the recent floods, according to a report submitted to the council by the engineer. Four floods have occurred since February, and on each occasion serious damage has been done to roads by slips and erosion.

The engineer added that serious flooding began after the forests had been cleared, and each succeeding flood had caused heavier damage. He did not think erosion could be checked until half the area of the country was returned to forest.
