FEATHERSTON RATES

INCREASE IN COUNTY LEVY. “We have got to realise that our rates are not low,” observed Councillor J. C. Bidwill when it was reported at today’s meeting of the Featherston County Council that the general rate for the current financial year would be 1 5-8 d in the £ as compared with 1 3-8 d last year. The chairman, Mr Q. Donald, said that at present farmers were not experiencing bad times and if the council was hard on them they would pay. When bad times came along they would have to do what they had done’ before—cut the rates.
