FEATHERSTON
CROQUET CLUB MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The 18th annual meeting of the Featherston Croquet Club was held in the pavilion on Saturday afternoon. Before the meeting opened Mrs Saunders (who presided) asked the members to stand in silence as a mark of sympathy with Miss Lyford, who lost her sister recently. Apologies for absence' were received from Mesdames Williams, R. Donald, Johns, Fairbrother and Miss Lyford. The annual report and statement of receipts and expenditure were read and adopted. The following officers were elected: Patron, Mrs R. W. Matthews; president, Mrs Saunders; vice-president, Mrs Williams and Mrs Edwards; secretary, Miss E. Williams; treasurer, Miss Viles; greenkeeper, Mrs Fairbrother. Mesdames Ayre, Cundy and McKenzie were elected life members. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Viles for ■ making the Anzac wreath. The winner of the competition for a table cloth (presented by Mrs Saunders) was Mrs Jeffrey. The meeting concluded with a dainty afternoon tea which was much enjoyed. PAHAUTEA W.D.F.U. The annual meeting of the Pahautea branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Pahautea Hall recently. Mrs Farquhar presided over a good attendance. In reviewing the year's work Mrs Farquhar expressed her thanks to members who had helped to make the work of the year a success. The winners of the points prize for the year were: Mrs S. L. Smith 1, Mrs F. Siemoneck 2. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mrs Farquhar; vice-presidents, Mesdames S. Grant, L. Smith, W. Ross, J. Frend; secretary-treasurer, Mrs Ness; advisory members, Mrs Ross and Mrs Smith; librarian, Mrs J. Frend; delegate to council/ Mrs S. Grant; hon auditor, Mr H. Mortenson (Carterton). Mesdames Farquhar and Ness were presented by Miss Nancy Corbett, the junior member, with dainty posies. The tea hostesses were Mrs C. Corbett and Mrs Farquhar. PERSONAL. Mr H. E. Pendergrast, who has been headmaster of the Featherston School for the past three years, has been appointed to a position in Auckland. GOLF MATCH. There was a very good attendance at the juvenile entertainment held in the Town Hall la'st night in aid of the Queen Carnival. The programme was varied, and the items worthy of encores which, however, could not be responded to owing to the length of the programme. During the evening the Rev Father Carmine thanked Mrs Lowell and her assistants and also the performers ,who had helped to make the concert such a success. Saba; song, Miss Annie Fellingham; play, “Ruler of the House,” P. Henderson, P. Jeffrey, C. Buck; sailor’s hornpipe, G. Lister (bagpipes accompaniment); “Misty Island,” G. Saba, G.
