INDIAN HOCKEY MATCH
COMMITTEE’S GRATITUDE TO GUARANTORS. (To the Editor.) Sir,— Recognising that the people of the Wairarapa are entitled to see the best of every sport visiting this Dominion, my committee was enterprising, and has arranged for a.visit from these famous Indian hockey players. The N.Z. Hockey Association, which organised this trip, has to assure itself that expenses will be paid and the various associations are given a price for a match. In every case the money has to be forwarded to headquarters prior to the game. Wairarapa was asked for £lOO. Now, as everyone knows, hockey as a sport is not strong financially. We were therefore compelled to appeal to the public for assistance. The response to the call has surpassed all expectations, and the £lOO has gone forward. Almost without exception, every citizen approached responded, and to these, on behalf of my committee, I offer our very hearty thanks. To those who have lent, we hope to return the money in full, and to bring this about we ask for the hearty cooperation of all sports in order- to make this event on Saturday. June 11. an outstanding success. —Yours, etc., GEO. HAYNE, President.
