FLOUR BAG BRANDS
METHOD OF REMOVAL. As a method for removing the coloured lettering from flour and oatmeal bags the following method is recommended:—“Wash the bags thoroughly in cold water to remove all lime and dressing and wring as dry as possible. Place on a board (lettered side up) and rub well with any good bar soap until the surface is quite caked. Roll tightly and put aside for three or four hours. Then wash well in warm, not hot, water, rubbing well on the board. Put into a vessel containing cold water to which a generous supply of shredded soap has been added and bring slowly to the boil. Boil for half an hour, rinse well and spread out on the grass to bleach for several days. Follow instructions carefully and you can’t go wrong.” Another method is to soak the brands well in kerosene before boiling them. It is best to leave them soaking in kerosene all night, then wash them through cold water and finally boil well with washing soda in the water. Rinse and put on the line (but do not blue), and they will be found to be quite free of marks.
