WRINKLES ON WRINKLES
EFFECT OF TEMPERAMENT. The reason why a really good night’s sleep will take away quite deep wrinkles when they first appear is because the skin is actually resting for eight or nine hours. A placid woman with an even temperament can quite easily reach the age of 50 or so without showing a sign of a line, simply because she is not putting much test on the elasticity of her skin. On the other hand, the temperamental female is likely to be wrinkled before she reaches the age of 30. A frown line is definitely a sign of eye strain; a nose to mouth line is never to be seen when the corners of the mouth turn up; lines and dark shadows under the eyes are caused by insomnia or eye strain if they appear in a young woman; and forehead lines are really worry lines, and can only be stopped in the beginning by your own determination not to be worried. There are anti-wrinkle creams on the market and these are certainly very useful. They are doubly so if you smear them on before you have your bath, allow to remain on while in the bath, so that the steam can induce them to sink into the skin, dab off afterwards, and rinse with plenty of cold water.
In the very beginning almond oil smeared over lines and allowed to remain on for one hour will do wonders. The whites of an egg spread on little strips of linen, and pressed in across the lines, allowed to remain on for two hours, or all night if possible, and soaked off with cool water, also helps. Rinsing with plenty of cold water and a good stiff rubber sponge tones up the skin. The following exercise helps to eradicate nose to mouth lines: Fill the mouth with air and puff hard against the inside of your cheeks and upper lip. Keep the lips slightly open and release the air in little puffs as if you were blowing smoke rings.
