HARRIER ACTIVITIES

KIATERE CLUB. SEALED HANDICAP RACE. The Kiatere Harrier Club held its first sealed handicap race of the season on Saturday. The Rev J. Davie started a strong field of runners on a two-lap course of 61 miles. The field was well bunched till the fishponds were reached, when W. Burns went to the front. Setting a hot pace, he was leading by half a minute at the end of the lap. Running strongly in the second lap he increased his lead to the finish with a good sprint in the excellent time of 38 minutes 16 secs. That the limit men also ran very well is shown by the fact that in spite of his splendid run W. Burns was only fifth in the handicap. B. Falloon repeated his good effort of the previous week to win the handicap by 13secs from O. Gaskin, who ran his best race to date. L. Francis did well to fill third position. Detailed results are as follow: —Handicap—B. Falloon (4min), 36.28, 1; O. Gaskin (4min), 36.41, 2; L. Francis (6 mins), 37.12, 3. Fastest time, W. Burns, 38.16, 1; W. McDonald and W. Burgess, 40.1, equal, 2. Next week a strong team from the Olympic Harrier Club will contest the first leg of the Turnbull Cup ovex- a five-mile course, starting at the Solway Showgrounds. In the evening the visitors will be the guests of the club at a dance to be held in the Central Arcade Hall.
