81-CENTENARY SERVICES IN ENGLAND
DETAILS OF REMARKABLE EXPANSION

Special services were held in connection with the Wesley bi-centenary. Dr Robert Bond, President of the Methodist Conference, preaching at Leamington, expressed the opinion that Wesley would be surprised if he returned to find the universal esteem in which he was now held, as his own generation regarded him as a fanatic. The membership of the Methodist Church when Wesley died was 76,000, with 300 preachers. Now the membership, 12,000.000, ministers numberede 57,000, local preachers, 8,000, Sunday school scholars, 2,000.000, and churches 100,000.
