LONDON SALES Messrs Levin & C 0.,. Ltd. have received the following cable from their London agents, dated May 20: —The auctions closed here today with a good tone. There was good general competition although the quantity offered was somewhat restricted. The total quantity offered 69,713 bales, sold 59,000 bales, carried forward 57,000 including 21,500 from New Zealand. Compared with the opening rates we quote: —Greasy merino, best, 3d per lb higher; averags |d per lb higher; fine halfbreds, 50/56’s, unchanged; extra fine crossbreds, 48/50’s, unchanged; fine crossbreds, 46/48’s, unchanged; medium crosbreds, 44/46’s, unchanged; coarse crossbreds, 40/44’s, unchanged, low crossbreds, 36/40’s, unchanged; slipes generally, particularly slipe J-bred lambs and slipe clothing, Id per lb lower.
