BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
ITS VALUE REAFFIRMED. A SERIES OF RESOLUTIONS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 20. The recent statement by the Minister of Education, Hon P. Fraser, indicating postponement of consideration of religious teaching in public schools, was discussed at a meeting of the Dominion council of the Bible-in-Schools League. The following resolutions were adopted unanimously:— That the Dominion council of the Bible-in-Schools League welcome the proposal of the Minister of Education to arrange for consultations with representatives of church and other organisations interested with a view to arriving at a solution of the questions of religious exercises and instruction in primary schools, raised in the Education Amendment Bill. That the council express its willingness to appoint representatives to attend wherever such conference or conferences may be held. That the council express its appreciation of the fact that the Education Amendment Bill recognises the place of voluntary religious instruction in the educational system of New Zealand.
That the council strongly reaffirm the high value of daily religious exercises and draw attention to the widespread approval of these exercises in the community.
