The Hon D. G. Sullivan. Minister of Industries and Commerce, left Wellington for the south by the interisland express steamer last night.

It is announced, a British Official Wireless message states, that Sir Frederick Whyte will be chairman of the Films Council, to be appointed under the Cinematograph Films Act. Major-General B. C. Frcybcrg, V.C., formerly of Wellington. has been adopted as the prospective candidate for the Spelthorne division of Middlesex at the next General Election in place of the sitting member. Sir Reginald Blakcr (Conservative), whose majority at the last election was 16,196. Sir Reginald announced recently that he would not seek re-election.

Advice has been received by the Government from the Air Ministry that Mr E. F. Carpenter. A.M.1.A.E.A., has been selected for duty in New Zealand as chief inspector of aircraft in exchange for Mr R. C. Kean, who will proceed to England shortly after Mr Carpenter arrives in New Zealand. In making this statement in an interview last evening, the Minister in charge of the Air Department, the Hon F. Jones, said that Mr Carpenter was to leave Croydon by air on May 19. He was expected in New Zealand at the beginning of June.
