PRODUCE AND GRAIN
CANTERBURY MARKET SLUMP IN POTATOES (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 20. A fortnight or . so of fine weather has allowed agricultural operations in the country to proceed uninterrupted by and a great deal of crop work has been done. Wheat has gone out for sowing freely, and' it' appears that, with reasonably good weather, there will be a fair sowing for the next harvest. The area will now almost certainly be very considerably bigger than that put in last season. Little of .the.present crop is left.now in thie hands of farmers. Potatoes are, if possible,. in a worse situation than they were at the begining of this week. There appears to be no market for them at all from any quarter and, with digging going solidly on, 'offerings ’have been ' plentiful. The price is noriiinally £3 on trucks, but a seller would find it hard to obtain business, even at this low figure. Chaff continues to meet fair demand, and all g.b.o.s. available is readily absorbed for shipping. Oats are very quiet and are seldom mentioned. • There is a fair demand for white clover which,, for specially choice lines, is worth up to Is. Red is dull. ■ ■ ■'•
